Photopost #1 : Erin's Wedding

photos of j&a taken by Applemoon Photography

What can I say about my cousin's wedding? It was beautiful, it was fun, it was HOT! Seriously, it was over 100 degrees! The happy occasion took place several Saturdays ago (who am I kidding, it was almost a month ago) at the Silver Horse Winery in San Miguel. My sister and I were both bridesmaids, which meant a super early call time for breakfast and then straight to hair and make-up. Our cousin instructed us on the sort of style she was thinking of (finger waves - very 20's esque), and I have to say I think we looked pretty darn good!
The ceremony was short and sweet (for which we are thankful since it was so hot) and was personal and uniquely shaped to them as a couple. Also, a lizard totally scurried by our feet right in the middle of it all! After the ceremony (and a slew of bridal party photos), we finally got to partake of the drinks and appetizers, which were delicious (especially the potato bite things.. mmmm...). I enjoyed the champagne cocktails, but was a little sad that there was no white wine provided - not that I don't enjoy red wine, but it was pretty darn hot and I was craving something cold. They also had iced tea and lemonade, which were perfect for the beastly weather. Dinner consisted of pork belly served with flank(?) steak with a side of fresh grilled veggies. While the meal was absolutely delicious, my intestines weren't too pleased.
Speeches were made - I have to admit that the FOB's speech made me tear up a bit - and first dances were had. For the first time, I did not take part in the bouquet toss - single ladies only ;) and my cousin opted out of the male equivalent. There was a table of scrumptious desserts in the corner, but no cake was officially cut. Overall, a mix of traditional and non-traditional.
The best part was the dancing. I only wish I could have done more of it, but as a member of the bridal party, it was our solemn duty to decorate the newlyweds car in the most embarrassing of fashions (which was also rather fun, until I started being eaten by mosquitos). I got to dance with my hunny, which was nice, since we don't get to do that terribly often. And it was great to be able to spend an evening with my family, celebrating and having a blast.

A few photos of my own!

The night eventually had to end, and we all had to go back to our daily rhythms, but it was definitely a night to remember. It's exciting to think that the next wedding will most likely be ours.. it will be our turn to celebrate and dance the night away with family and friends. And while the night inevitably must end, as it always does, the celebration goes on. Because that's what a wedding is... a beginning. And what a wonderful way to start!
